Real, because for a little while westerners were pretending to be Chinese and saying vile shit. Like a Canadian posted a question asking Chinese people what they thought of Canada and a bunch of Canadians, pretending to be Chinese, were crying about Indians and the government being too “woke” and “DEI” (their exact words).
It has always listed location, but only recently have they translated country names into English. Also I have noticed several people from China saying the very same “Indians” thing about Canada.

You can always enjoy Chinese shitposting if you know the language. Most popular Chinese apps are not blocked from the rest of the world; China only blocks global apps. (It just clicked after Rednote blew up.)
