Pretty much any microwave made after 2000 actually has decent popcorn function. Seriously, try it. They use sensors to detect when to popcorn is ideal.
Why use anything but a pot on the stove:
-
Put a thin layer of canola or vegetable oil in the pot. Enough to cover the bottom but not so much that a popcorn kernel is covered.
-
Put 4 or 5 kernels in the pot and turn on the stove to medium heat. Cover.
-
Wait a minute or two until all kernels have popped.
-
Immediately add the serving size listed on the popcorn kernel package. Half a cup or whatever. Cover the pot.
-
Wait for the kernels to stop popping. Turn off the stove.
-
Transfer to a serving bowl and add seasoning (salt, garlic powder, nutritional yeast, cayenne pepper, paprika, etc.).
-
Eat a better bowl of popcorn than you’ve ever had.
Why use anything but a pot on the stove
Because microwave popcorn is quicker, easier and comes pre salted and buttered instantly ready to eat. I don’t need gorden Ramseys popcorn I just want popcorn to shove in my face.
Yeah it’s very simple to answer the “why not put in a bit more effort”. It’s always “I want to be lazy”.
Applies to people making fancier eggs, fancier noodles or better popcorn. Ease of finishing and speed >>>> quality.
It maybe takes 5 minutes total, and that’s only if you put a bunch of stuff on it. It’s not hard. You literally just dump the kernels into the pot.
It’s about as much time as making it in the microwave. For both you’re just waiting around for most of it.
You’re underestimating what it means to be lazy
Yeah but then you have to clean the pot afterwards. You can throw away the bag.
Is cleaning the pot hard? No, absolutely not. But if you’re lazy, you’ll probably lean towards the far easier option which is just the one where you throw away the bag afterwards
Your method required me to take out a pot. My method requires me to throw a bag in a microwave like an animal. We are not the same. /s
oil in the pot
That’s why. Microwave popcorn doesn’t require clean-up.
Coconut oil works super well too. It has a really high smoke point.
I will never stop popping.
You gotta shake the pan around while it’s popping too so the unpopped kernels stay on the move!
Partner bought us a popcorn popper. Put the popcorn in the device, place a bowl in front, plug it in, and your popcorn pops. No oil, no pan, no mess, and it was like 10 bucks. It’s basically a glorified hairdryer. This is the correct way to do popcorn.

Put microwave on highest setting Place your bag in and start popping, put more time than you’re gonna need cause we stop it manually Heres the secret, as soon as you can count three seconds between kernels popping, stop that thang. perfect popcorn everytime
Put it in the microwave and then take it out when it starts popping slowly. I’ve never met anyone else that does that for microwave popcorn and it works perfectly fine.
That’s literally what the instructions say but for some reason when we crave popcorn our brains turn off.
I’ve never had a microwave or a bag of popcorn for which 2min was the wrong answer
I make popcorn on the stove and it works much better
Just buy popcorn seeds and get a pot and lid and fry it in coconut oil. Salt and butter to preference.
Everybody gets to make a charcoal brick out of popcorn at least once in their life. It’s an educational experience.
👏 Use 👏 the 👏 lower 👏 heat 👏 setting 👏
The 100w setting for 3 min does not equal to the 2000w setting for 9s. Shit gets burned because of the hot spots. Use lower heat for longer to eliminate hot spots in your food.
Also: put your popcorn closer to the edge of the turntable!!!
It rotates through more of the microwave so it averages out the hotspots more effectively
Well I mean we know that now.
Dummy.

Y’all should ditch microwave popcorn for an Air Popper or Whirlypop anyways. Since the microwave one sheds micro plastics apparently
https://www.salon.com/2023/03/31/your-microwave-popcorn-bags-are-full-of-harmful-forever-chemicals/
And it tastes better as well as being cheaper
If you don’t think your cheap Chinese made plastic popcorn maker is shedding micro plastics too, I have a bridge to sell ya.
Sure, it’s becoming clearer that food and plastics are not a good mix. The Whirlypop method is aluminum though
I remember back in the '80s as a kid when we first got this big ass microwave, first microwave we ever had. We got microwave popcorn and followed the instructions on the package 3-5. Minutes on high.
And that’s how we learned to ignore the instructions on microwave popcorn in that overpowered monster AND what Satan’s farts smell like.
The Costco stuff pops pretty well.
I did try an air popper, but that makes some genuinely flavourless crap, and throws unpopped kernels everywhere.
Best results I’ve had was in a big pot with some coconut oil, but it’s fiddly to get the temperature just right. It’s easy to go too high and burn it.
anon is goddamn retarded
be me Tried to Cook popcorn once the old fashioned way aka on the stove Banned from the kitchen for the rest of my life Coal doesn’t taste so bad.
thats why you should invest in[o a good microwave
