    Honestly, the decision should have been obvious. If he stayed in and lost, his legacy was done.

    Now, he has this nice story of being the bridge candidate and handing it over to the next generation. He can enjoy the remainder of his life with less stress, still in an advisory role, enjoying time with friends & family. He’s had some rough moments in his life and he should get some peace.
