I’m currently using Daylio. It works fine, but, given the sensitive nature of the information, I want something more private/trustworthy. The following is what I am looking for in the app:

Essentials:

  • Android app.
  • Support custom tags and notes when recording a mood.
  • The ability to add a mood for a specific day/time other than current (for example, if I miss an entry).
  • Support multiple entries per day.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Visualizations of the moods, and other data, over time
  • Data exports/backups

FWIW, if it’s privacy you’re worried about, you can download the APK and decompile it. Shouldn’t be hard to verify it’s not phoning home.

I’ve tried a few journaling apps on F-Droid but ultimately couldn’t find anything as good as Daylio.

You’re technically right, but I’d much prefer to use software designed with privacy as intent. At the very least, it’s much more convenient.

It is designed with privacy as an intent. It’s right on their home page, they say the data never leaves your phone. It’s in their privacy policy too. Those are legally binding.

That’s a fair point. Though, it would depend on exactly what it says in the privacy policy (I have not looked). The data of the mood entries themselves might not leave the device, but perhaps they still record your general usage of the app for targeted ads.

Hmm. I don’t think that this is exactly what I’m looking for. I would like something that’s a bit more empirical in nature. Thank you for your recommendation, though!
