So who does this community want as Kamala’s VP?

With the presidential contest already being the prosecutor vs the felon, I think there’d be a nice symmetry to then have the VP contest as the guy who went to space vs the guy who’s from another fucking planet.

Buttigieg for sure. The #1 job of the VP candidate is to win the debate. He guarantees that.

Buttigieg is awesome, but I fear that putting a gay man and a mixed-race black & asian woman might be too “woke” for many independents in the US and could stir up too much enthusiasm for republicans.

Not that they wouldn’t make an effective team, but the Electoral College favors states whose population favors monoculturalism and frowns upon non-heteronormative behavior.

I mean, I always preferred Mark Kelly.

      • he’s from a swing state
      • his moderate views could help pull in independent voters (Harris has been as being very far left, even though she’s not)
      • former military (United States Navy Captain)
      • This one is more dark, but his wife was Gabrielle Giffords survived an attempted assassination attack (survived a bullet to the head). She could help serve as a counterweight to Trump’s failed assassination attempt.
      • he’s also a goddamn astronaut! (how fucking cool is that?) lol

The downside is he is a Senator, and should a Harris-Kelly win (hooray) his seat would be temporarily replaced by Arizona’s current democratic governor and be up for reelection in 2026 during the midterms; this would be bad because midterm elections are historically bad for the sitting President’s party. Considering the senate already geographically favors republicans, this is Kelly’s replacement would be fighting to hold the seat in a in a very purple state and in a year that will likely not favor democrats.

All that said, if Harris does not pick Kelly I will 100% be rallying behind whoever she picks - whether it be Shapiro, Beshear, or Waltz, or someone else, I’ll be voting for the ticket.

Not sure if people are following the betting markets but I can see Kamala is now the narrow favourite. On Betfair, the mid-odds pricing equates to a 51% probability for Kamala vs 46% for Trump. That compares to Trump’s win probability peaking just above 70% in the immediate aftermath of the debate.

I am going to be so sad if we lose in November.

Seriously, Kamala hit it out of the park yesterday with her speech. Putting her next to Trump, I just don’t see how anyone could look at the two of them and then pick him.

Kamala isn’t just better symbolically, but she is also better on policy.

She was born to two immigrant parents who later divorced, and she was mostly raised by her single mother. Her family had to budget their money diligently to make ends meet. Contrast that with Trump, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, always had the family chauffeur cater to his every need, and ultimately is the patriarch of a generationally wealthy family that views people like Harris as annoying upstarts inserting themselves where they don’t belong.

Their policies also reflect their upbringing; Trump’s policies empower people like himself; they make the rich richer, and make everyday Americans pay more by cutting government services. Harris’s policies empower everyday Americans, and make those who have far more money than they could ever spend in a lifetime pay their fair share.

I’m actually excited to vote for Kamala. Ending the Trump shitshow is an added bonus, but America will be genuinely better off and on a better path if she wins.

    Edit: removed an extra word.
