Not magic that is useless to society.
Magic that is not valued by society.
Frieren’s quest for weird magic is so real to me.
Like I don’t want the magic that blows up the moon.
I want that spell that removes tough stains from fabrics.
Hmm… In school they would be taught some magic that is not really useful but that “has pedagogical value.” At work they’d be forced to use the magic that the market demands, but it’d be unimaginative and micromanaged. But they would have some hobby magics that are very amusing but slightly embarassing…

Yeah, in a world where fire magic existed, there would be fire magicians whose day job was being a human-powered blast furnace, blasting something with fire over and over. They wouldn’t be out having adventures, and the use of their magic would probably be heavily regulated.
Until someone invents a magi-tech furnace and those people have to turn to others means to make money
Erectile disfunction magic
And don’t forget that after they die, some use for it will be found and it becomes the crucial underpinning of wizard society.
Excellius Spreadsheeticus
~A spell to excellently spread shit around
Could be useful in farming.
I would specialise in napping magic, with a minor in making tea magic
SLEEP
Mt goodness that’s perfect
frieren approves
If you haven’t watched Sousou no Frieren: Frieren is a synonym for niche magic. And getting stuck in Mimics.
I would find that incredibly useful.
5% would propel society towards space age in record time.
I would spend so much time trying to perfect liquid luck
liquid luck is basically cocaine though
No, I’m pretty sure that’s powdered luck.
sorry mixed that up again, coffee i meant.
Art magic history
I’m not the biggest Harry Potter fan but that seems like one thing they get exactly right. Lots of characters are completely focused on their slice of academia
So like just like academic scholars?
Depression magic, go!
