I know it isn’t exactly the same but there are as many varieties of artificial vanilla out there. It’s not disappearing, we’re just not concerned with the original

First thought when I read this headline was this is absurd, vanillin is super easy to synthesize the scent/flavor isn’t going anywhere. Now actual beans may become super scarce which sucks for sure.

Is there any reason, if the specific conditions are so narrowly defined, that we can’t grow the orchid hydroponically in a controlled environment anywhere in the world?

It’s really expensive. Cultivation outside Mexico already depends on child labor because the bees it needs only live in Mexico

“along a very narrow band of the earth, between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.”

Uhh, I wouldn’t consider that very narrow, especially given that it’s 36% of Earth’s landmass and a third of all people live in it

The original post is a gift link. People shouldn’t be hitting the paywall for the next 30d unless one of the following is true:

      • They’ve got Javascript disabled
      • They’re running a device which strips the gift token off the URL
      • Their device desperately needs a reboot

If I don’t listen to when my machine and browser when they beg for a reboot, why would I do so for a gift article?
