    Explanation: when the Great Fire of Rome occurred in 64 AD, the Emperor Nero, facing (probably false) accusations that the fire was intentional, decided it would be a fine idea to place the anger for the fire on some newfangled monotheist cult - Christianity. This is generally regarded as being a dick move, and resulted in a significant number of Christians being executed.

      Do you think Nero was supposed to be the antichrist? I remember reading an article a while back that said something about his name meaning 666 but it went over my head

        I know there’s speculation that the description of the antichrist in Revelations was meant to refer to Nero, but Biblical scholarship isn’t my forte.
