This is more common than you’d expect.

For the record, I didn’t see your post, but from the replies from people that did, it doesn’t sound like it should have been a problem.

My advice is to block the whole instance from your profile. I did this and I’m much happier for it.

I just ignore that instance in its entirety, and ignore the fact that it even exists. Not worth my time.

It’s because Lemmy as a whole is a toxic cesspool. Thankfully, it will never gain much traction. The end.

They didn’t remove it because of the “girl”.
They removed it because “It’s all a simulation” implies that the glory of the Chinese Communist Party isn’t real.

ml is a cesspool. It’s best not to even bother engaging in their communities. They’ll ban you for stupid shit. This needs to be made more well known to help break the network effect they have going on with some of their communities.

I saw that comment, before it was removed. I thought it was relevant as the post was about misgendering.

I guess it was too friendly and subtle. They needed me to be seething to feel secure about my intentions.

Worth mentioning is the comment had 34 upvotes and 1 down. So it wasn’t exactly controversial, from a community perspective.

Bro, that is lemmy. If you haven’t noticed, that’s how tankies operate here. They don’t just post straight propaganda, they rile you up and make you angry and make you question the way you talk to people, when in fact you did nothing wrong.

          This. 100%

They gaslight pretty much everyone that posts there. I only had limited, occasional interactions with that instance and almost every time it was negative. I started to wonder what I was doing that was making me so misunderstood, which was getting me into all kinds of discussions…

Once I figured it out and blocked the entire instance from my profile, I’ve had a lot of interactions on Lemmy and I’m no longer walking on eggshells every time I post a comment.

I’m just grateful that the asshats all converged into a few instances so I can just block the entire instance and have a great time on Lemmy.

This is lemmy. You cannot talk to people with any sort of friendliness or familiarity because tankies don’t understand such things and it confuses and enrages them. You cannot use colloquial words or phrases because tankies are too stupid to look them up, let alone understand them. And god help you if you call out any bullshit propaganda. The best thing to do here is to just read the posts because if you try to interact like a normal person, you will get removed/banned/blocked/ignored. They don’t want to admit it, but this place is as bad as reddit—worse in some ways—just without the shareholders enshittifying use and access.

I’m on programming.dev and haven’t had any issue with “communist propaganda”… What communities are you referring to?

Propaganda is not just blatant, in-your-face, “fight the red menace” kinda shit. It also includes things like altering speech and thought through subtle means. The tone on lemmy as a whole differs greatly to that of pretty much anywhere else on the internet, and not in a good way.
