      Chan and kun are suffixes that you’ll apply to someone’s name. Both are casual, for use with your friends. Using chan is sort of like calling someone “sweetie”, in that it’s more feminine, but not exclusively feminine. Using kun is like calling someone “buddy”. More masculine, but again not exclusively.

      They’re both ‘cutesy’ diminutive suffixes in Japanese, -chan somewhat more feminine, -kun somewhat more masculine.
