To be fair, a lot of people supporting China critically support Russia as a temporary ally against US imperialism, but that is an important distinction (likely lost on libs though)
russia is on the side of progress in the global class struggle while ukraine is in the reactionary side, western leftists are firmly located in the reactionary side of the global class struggle since they benefit materially from it. this is what they call social imperialists.
