From what I gather here it’s really popular with leftlibs like the german greens on some sort moral ground, forced labour and what not, and economic fairness grounds because china did the unthinkable act of subsidizing their cars directly instead of through some sort of rube-goldberg-like process that avoids being called a subsidy according to 20 EU-regulations on technicalities
