5 budget indie horrors for Android, pay-what-you-want on itch.io until 14th July. They’re download-only (as in you can’t claim them to your account) and definitely look a bit basic, but if that’s your cup of tea then knock yourself out!

    As a person not into horror but into free games, I wonder why so many indie horror itch games make it here. Do they just go free more often than other genres? Am I just noticing them more often than any other type of post because the thumbnail is often something I actively find unpleasant instead of something neutral I can scroll and ignore?

    Not a criticism of anyone posting them, they absolutely should be posted here.

      My observations make me think that there are just a relatively high number of indie horror games compared to other genres of indies. I reckon it’s because they’re probably easier to make - you can focus on just building a world and putting in a few scary things rather than worrying about gameplay and complex mechanics if you’re not interested in spending your time designing and developing those things. Also I imagine there’s an audience for people who like horror who otherwise don’t care that much about video games.
