We’ve also, for the last 30 years, raised women to believe in themselves, expect careers, and equal pay while simultaneously telling them that men still have out earn them and be more socially mobile in order to be worthwhile mates. So the men who achieve wealth and social standing are fought over, and there are a lot less of them than in my generation, so their behaviour isn’t great and may in fact be worse on average than what we dealt with in the 70s & 80s. Raising sons in the last 30 years has been a minefield. Trying to bring them up to be men that I, as their mother, feel I have done a decent job at, but still have them be successful and socially relevant, has been very difficult. Many of their peer aged women don’t appreciate that they can cook & clean and look after themselves and their partner unless they can simultaneously be tall, good looking, and significantly out earn that partner.

Yep. I had one who would never stray far and didn’t want to cross the road without my say so until they were about 10. The other as soon as they were able to walk/run would high tail it to the nearest roadway the second your gaze wavered. Trying to convince my MIL that we weren’t abusive but just trying to keep our child alive until they knew better and could be reasoned with, was an ordeal. And holding their hand wasn’t much of an option because they would pull hard enough to dislocate their elbow. They also hated strollers or backpacks so that was not a viable option.

There is a larger percentage of Canadians that are still going to go to the US. They are continuing to go now. However the ones who are not going now will not be swayed by ad campaigns. Until Trump (and his family) are out of US politics and the US governance regains some semblance of lawful conduct, we will not be back to the US. We will do everything in our power not to send our money to the US in any way. California, and other states or tourism boards, would be better off to save their money. Or spend it on changing their government.

Can attest. Just visited Norway and although I wanted to eat authentic Norwegian cuisine, pizza was everywhere. Easier to find than seafood and I was staying in a port city.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I understand that Trump might be confused about this. He isn’t doing anything that he didn’t specifically say he would do when he was asking for people’s votes. They loved him before the election. They loved voting for him. I can understand why he might not believe that suddenly they don’t like him. Somewhat the same for Musk except he started crashing back with the purchase of Twitter so he should have had time to understand that he was driving his fans away the further right-psycho he got.

One bonus - they won’t be spending any more money in the US.

If you told people the best way to pay off their debt was to cut their income and then try to cut some of their expenses, they’d laugh at you. Somehow Conservatives have been able to peddle that narrative for 40 years and, although they have never made it work, provincially or federally, they still have people believing them that the first thing to do is cut income (taxes).
