You can be critical of candidates you support. Biden’s only use is being not Donald. He’s not doing anything any other centrist dem would be doing in his shoes, and doing a whole lot less than a progressive. People see this. Biden is not an inspiring figure promising to produce a better future, he’s a generic placeholder, representing status quo in a dismal system. People aren’t energized to vote for this and that’s understandable. Pretending this isn’t an issue or isn’t costing his campaign votes only hurts the party. Vote for Biden, but demand better from the DNC. You can do both.

You cannot be on the left and not find fault with Biden. If so, you’re either a neoliberal or you’re fooling yourself.

You cannot be on the left in the US and not vote for Biden. Sometimes status quo is the better than the only other outcome.

Yessss! There’s not a lot of data on permaculture yet, but it’s a promising system. The homeopaths have really taken a shining to it and they pollute anything they touch with made up data and inflated price tags for white, faux-educated yuppies. There’s a lot of superstition mixed in with evidence based best practices in permaculture.

That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying you don’t need to be an asshole to disagree. You don’t need to “tear down” beliefs and “not play nice”. Being rude to people for being wrong just makes them dig deeper into being wrong out of defensiveness. It isn’t about edification, it’s about finding an excuse to be mean.

That said, other people’s education is not my responsibility. Taking the time and energy required to correct a random stranger about what shape the earth is isn’t going to change the world but it will take a toll on me. Being wrong doesn’t make them a bad person. Being a jerk to them for believing so does. Believing in a flat earth a symptom of fundamentally flawed reasoning skills that I don’t have the time or energy to deal with. If someone believes the earth is flat, I’ll politely disagree and state my opinion, but ultimately I’ll let them do them. Who cares. I choose my friends, they won’t make the cut.

An AI using what I say to train it will only make AI more like me. As far as I’m concerned, that’s an improvement that may help others while not affecting my life one iota. It’s not like it remembers who said what, it all just tweaks the algorithm.

Advertisers have been recording and storing what you say word for word to build a profile specific to you, containing your deepest, darkest truths so they can trick you into giving them more of your money. Who cares about AI training on publicly posted comments, it’s just taking energy away from the real privacy issues.
