  • While I do see your point, I think the main idea behind this post is that we’re told that we live in civilized free western world, but once we rebel, speak ill or become in any way a ‘threat’ to people on top (while staying within the rules of society of course), that’s when you get punished for it.

Something I’ll give to autocratic countries is that even though you have no freedom, at least you’re fully aware of it. In western countries, you have some freedom but are led to believe you actually have more, if not full, freedom.

It’s not as simple as pronouns in the English language when it comes to ‘latinx’. The word is not that easy to pronounce to someone who knows Spanish but doesn’t know English all that well, which are the people this word is supposed to include. It’s quite literally imposing English language norms on the Spanish language which can be considered offensive in itself.

Besides, personal opinion but it sounds stupid. If there’s a need to call someone from Latin America a gender neutral term, latine is a much better alternative - it’s more accepted within Spanish speaking communities, -e is already found in non-gendered names within Spanish language and just generally doesn’t sound like something Musk would have written.

  • Good, but why now? For years, Google has been way more dominant both practically and culturally until very recently, and only now after they stumbled hard with their AI venture, Bing catching up, and their public opinion dropping do they decide to break the company up.

Does this mean that a monopoly is good as long as it’s successful, but once it starts stumbling and outlives its use that’s when the government is gonna do something about it?

  • I don’t think racism itself is enough for Trump and far-right to succeed, which is precisely why they’ve combined it with populism and working class rhetoric. Of course, there’s still racism like how muslims are being portrayed as violent beasts as opposed to culture white christians, but a lot of it is also things like “immigrants are taking away money from welfare thats why you live bad” or “immigrants are taking our jobs” or “jews control everything and steal from workers” and so on, you know what they say.

Like any good right-wing propaganda, there is a grain of truth in those statements, and it’s that economic reality of working class is shit - wages are stagnant, exploitation is rampant and just pure stress when it comes to finances. I do believe that if people’s needs are met then the racist rhetoric would lose a lot of its power and people will just stop caring as much as they do right now, but that’s very unlikely without any radical action.

  • Funnily enough, not even neoliberals believe in the free market regardless of how much they spout its nonsense.

Thatcher was one of such neoliberals, she would always talk about how people should become self-sufficient and governments shouldn’t interfere in the free market for it to truly work and so on, but during her rule she was spending billions in subsidies for corporations (aka government interference in the free market). Of course, they weren’t called subsidies in the paperwork but some other bullshit like “public investment”, but their effect was still the same.

Tax cuts for big companies helps regular people and students in debt too, as they’re now able to create more jobs and innovate further! They’re definitely not going to use the money to enrich themselves further and buy new yachts while still exploiting their workers and laying them off when it suits them, that would NEVER happen.
