Let the man earn his paycheck
It didn’t make the Top Ten grossing movies the year it came out [2006]
If 25% of the population knows it that means 75% doesn’t.
Most people in America have no idea who Guy Fawkes was.
You need to understand the mentality. If they like something, then everyone in the whole world must like it, too.
Similar feelings when you read books set in 1930s Europe.
“I want to leave, but Grandmere would never survive such a long voyage.”
Progressives in 1968 thought that massive protests in the streets would push the Democrats to the Left.
It didn’t work.
I recently learned of a British version of Dirk, circa 2010. I’d seen the Elijah Wood version, and this is a nice addition.
It’s true that Doyle never mentioned it, but it’s logical that Holmes would want a place he could duck into for a quick meal; or a nap; or to put on a new disguise. Watson does say that Holmes had bolt holes around London, so it would have been foolish for him not to have a membership.
I remember reading about his membership in a non canon work.
If you’re a fan look up ‘The 7% Solution.’ It’s available as a novel and a movie; Holmes meets the only doctor capable of curing his cocaine addiction, Sigmund Freud.
He’s not a ‘marketing genius’ he’s an addict.
If you think about something 24/7 of course you’re going to get good at it.
Reminds me of an old joke.
A man is standing on Wall Street. He has a sign that says 'Pencils For Sale." A broker walks up and asks how much for one pencil.
“$50,000.00”
“$50 thousand for one pencil? At that price you’re not going to sell many.”
“At that price I only need to sell one.”
“the notion that science is ever settled.”
The whole point of science is that it’s never settled, and that there’s always something new to learn.
Holmes was a mess.
He was unpopular at school; hung out with the lower classes; used cocaine; once shot the letters ‘V R’ into his living room wall; was a member of a club where no member was supposed to speak to another; only survived as long as he did because his brother was a major government official.
Agreed. Airplane 2 had William Shatner parodying William Shatner.
Agreed.
I see people posting questions about life in the 1970s and wonder, “Don’t you know any one who was around then?”
So, Trump gets a pass on what happened to the Kurds?
I understand how fossils work, but I assumed that scat would be more likely to break down compared with flesh and bone. If you see scat in the woods it’s usually gone by the next day. otoh, if it were placed before a massive dust cloud landed, I guess that the lack of oxygen would slow the process.
A friend showed me a documentary from the 1980s. They were running around in radiation suits, hunting for deer.
I’ve heard of Newsom. I don’t know who this guy is, and apparently he’s not interested in the job. Both Sanders and Clinton have come out in favor of Biden. But I’ll make you a deal. If someone with a reasonable chance pops up, I’ll vote for them, if you promise to vote for Biden. Deal?

New York City in the 1930s was full of Socialists and Communists.
Much of the 1950s Red Scare was set up to punish the ‘premature anti-fascists’ who a young Steve Rogers would have listened to.
