I’m inattentive type ADHD so maybe that was a contributing factor to why my parents felt they way they did about it

They generally take mental health seriously but for somethings they’re pretty damn backwards on

One problem I had though was that some of my teachers were like, “I think he should be tested for ADHD and/or autism,” and my parents going on a tirade about it not being real or some shit.

Of course I only found that out after I got diagnosed with ADHD (still haven’t got the courage to ask my doc about autism though) and told my parents therefore triggering they’re tirade aimed at me where they mentioned my teachers talking about it pretty consistently in school.

Would have loved getting that diagnosis when I was younger than 29.

I’ll have you know that I went to therapy… Eventually.

I unfortunately tried to find solace at the bottom of a bottle first.

Didn’t work. All I found where the demons of my own mind and the bottles took away my ability to fight them.

When I got a hernia a couple years ago I couldn’t for 3 months due to pain before the surgery‡ and then 2 months after the surgery (doc said 2 weeks but there was still too much pain in the area)

That was hard

‡ Had to wait 3 months because my insurance was insisting it was an “optional” surgery because it didn’t have my guts pinched so they were not wanting to cover it. My doc was insistent that it wasn’t optional due to the level of pain I was in. In the end the doc won and it was covered.

Looks like I’ve found my people

I haven’t tried all 3 together myself but if you do give it a try share your findings, it does sound like it could be pretty good

Yeah spicy food can be straight up cruel to me.

Plus with my food allergies I basically open with “Does it contain X, Y, or Z?”

Unfortunately it seems every time they come to mind I remember more of their shit too

Hopefully you’re in a better place than the past you that was there for those unlocked memories

That’s the worst part, they never tried to justify it. They never considered it an issue on their part until we (the rest of their friends) brought it to their attention.

They simply lacked the ability to consider others in that regard.

They’re lack of respect for others extended greatly into a while shitton of their behaviors. But naturally those behaviors took awhile to surface.
