Don’t worry about speed. Speed is a practically worthless metric, especially when you’re starting out.

Your focus should be on developing a sustainable cadence: the frequency of your pedal strokes, and the pressure you exert on the pedals. It’s a balancing act. For a given output, the faster you pedal, the less pressure you need to put on the pedals. Speed up or slow down from your ideal cadence, and you just wear yourself out without improving your speed.

I looked to maintain about 65-75 strokes per minute, and not pushing so hard that my thighs would start to burn. Some people prefer slower and harder; some prefer faster and lighter.

The purpose of shifting is to maintain consistent stroke rate and pedal pressure. Speed is incidental: if your cadence is good, whatever speed you get will also be good.

Circadian rhythms aren’t based solely on the sun. They are also based on social and physical activity. Things they don’t get when sitting indoors for the entirety of their daylight hours.

Lack of sleep is primarily because they are not physically tired come bed time. They aren’t physically tired becauae they haven’t engaged in any physical activity all day. They’ve been obligated to sit indoors during daylight hours, and they don’t have daylight for outdoor evening activities.

Instead, they get to sit indoors, under artificial lighting and watching bright screens, both of which screw up their sleep schedules.

DST is in use 3/4 of the year. It is “normal” time, where everyone recognizes that 4am is entirely too fucking early for a sunrise, so we push that back to 5AM.

“Standard” time is the abnormal abomination that we currently switch to for about 3 months in winter.

Seasonal depression in kids and teens is primarily due to the lack of outdoor activities in winter, which is caused by an abnormally early sunset driving them indoors immediately after school.

Locking the clocks on normal, “summer” time solves the problems with the time change. The “kids walking to school in the dark” problem is mitigated by the fact that they already spend the darkest three weeks of the year on winter vacation; we can extend that one more week by stealing three days from each end of the summer vacation. The remaining two or three weeks of early morning darkness do not justify stealing months of evening daylight from the rest of us.

The reality is that “tactical” and “strategic” are functionally meaningless adjectives when applied to weapons or systems.

Theoretically, “tactical” refers to how a military unit engages another military unit. It is how a commander wins a battle against an enemy unit.

“Strategic” refers to how a nation engages another nation. It is how a government wins a war.

The term “tactical nuke” referred to something that a lower level commander could have been authorized to use under his own judgment. If Soviet tanks were rolling across Europe during the cold war, commanders may have been granted the discretion to use small nuclear weapons to halt their advance.

Since the the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction was established, there has been no such thing as a “tactical” nuke. Any wartime use of a nuclear weapon of any kind demands an escalation to total annihilation. I used the term “tactical” ironically, to refer to a pre-“MAD” doctrine that can no longer exist.

In declaring that conventional bombs cannot penetrate this fixed bunker, it seems that someone is pushing for unconventional warfare. The reality is that this bunker is not impenetrable. It shares the same weakness as any bunker: getting into and out of it. Bomb the entrances to the bunker, and it will take months or years to tunnel back in. Whatever they are doing inside it, they won’t be doing until they manage to dig it up again.

Does it do scan to FTP? For my Brother MFC device, I spun up a write-only FTP server to drop scanned documents into a network share. That made them immediately accessible to any machine on my network.

The reason for paint is because the cheap, mild steel they use for bottle caps will begin to rust in minutes - literally minutes - if it is not protected from the oxygen in the air. The paint is necessary to keep the caps from oxidizing and leaving rust marks on everything they touch.

The color and logo on the caps are simply for marketing purposes.
