  • In many states, there are simply too many bridges that are coming due at the same time. When you take into account budgeting, state and local policies on detours (for safety reasons ie emergency services being able to get across town in 5 minutes max), and record flooding taking out entire bridges you start to see the issue.

We recently had a situation where one major thoroughfare was closed for planned reconstruction, and 2 other bridges were closed after a hurrican came through and caused irreperal damage to them. This brought traffic and commuting to grid lock in the area, but the replacement bridges could not be engineered fast enough and the other bridge was literally demolished down to its foundations.

Not every bridge has to be substantial either. In a lot of states in the North East there are thousands of tiny bridges over creeks. And many of them are well over 100 years old but just so inconvenient to replace.

  • I’m happy to see Mike Flanigan’s Hill House make the list. I absolutely loved that season of television, but not many people I know have seen it. His other shows have been great, too. Highly recommend them to anyone who wants something that starts off traditionally spooky and then transforms into something emotionally resonant. It’s definitely a higher caliber of show than American Horror Story.

  • From the trailer, I get the feeling that the movie is going to be a bit egotistical and preachy? Maybe that isn’t the right word. It just feels like the director is shouting at the viewer through the trailer about the state of the chaos in the world today. Obviously, his older movies were much more intimate stories focused on character growth that I found very easy to watch. This seems like a huge scope with a high concept and a risk of going off the rails.

I’m in the same boat with limited time to sit down and watch a movie. Will probably not waste my time on this and only watch it if I hear good things from people in my life that I trust to give decent recommendations.

The “Victorian House” is just the commonly accepted name for the archetectural style. I’m not an architectural expert, but the average person in the US would hear that and imagine a 3 story house with porches and elabroate decorations. The US certainly has a distinctive building and decorative style from that era that is different than any Victorian homes in the UK.

  • The F-650 and F-750’s are designed as small commercial trucks that should have small dump truck bodies or maybe flat bed for hauling other materials. They are not meant to just have a standard pickup bed on the back. They are ideal for small contractors who do not need as large a quantity of material that a large triaxle truck can carry. But of course, some people want the biggest personal truck to drive around so things like your picture are born.

  • 30th St Station in Philly, and I’m sure many other train stations in the world, has a similar layout with stairs down to the tracks. And has benches along the railing. The benches don’t obstruct the movement of people going up or down the stairs, but start from the top of the stairs and sit along the unused space to the sides of the stairs. The line to show tickets forms to one side of the stairs so that while passengers leaving the train can go up the stairs on their right the passengers joing can go down on their right. If you are early to your train, you can sit right there in the front of the line on a comfortable bench, and the line can form behind you.
