Wolf314159@startrek.websiteto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•A fair punishment for the obscene hoarding of wealth6·13 hours agoThe et cetera: Shouldn’t be allowed to work overtime either. And they should get taxed more if they work a second job, so only 40 hours per week. Attach ridiculous fees to any attempt at saving money in a bank, can’t have their money earning interest for them. They should also be in a high cost of living part of hell with no public transportation. And they should be forced to buy their own safety equipment. They should have to pay for healthcare out of pocket, no good health insurance. And they should be penalized for aging the same way too, with new billionaires coming in cheaper and forcing them out of their position and making their experience a liability in finding new work. Let’s throw in some inflation to keeps things spicy. An HOA that is constantly fighting them and won’t let them grow food. How about random detentions and beatings for being the wrong shade in the wrong part of hell town, the part they work in. And they should never be allowed to forget for one moment what they had in life and how they squandered it on petty selfish things.

Of course, it’s a violation none the less, just with extra steps.
IANAL, so I don’t really know how you’d build a case against them, let alone one that the current supreme court would actually hear (if that case would even get that far). The Supreme Court can absolutely say the quiet part out loud without saying anything, simply by refusing to hear the case. It’s also entirely possible that this organization could get struck down by courts at such a low level that the ruling has no substantive effect outside their county or the state.
Fighting bigots has always required grassroots efforts in conjunction with federal support. Remember, the last time a president deployed the National Guard to a state without the governor’s (of that state) approval before the recent California incident was when Lyndon Johnson sent the National Guard in to protect the civil rights of students against this kind of institutional racism at the local level. But, as you say, this administration has obviously abdicated their responsibility the rule of law and the rights of most of the population.
Wolf314159@startrek.websiteto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can i simply bake frozen chicken or does it actually need to thaw over several hours or immersed in cold water or something?1·3 days agoIt doesn’t work. Too much heat on the outside, but not enough time for that heat to get to the inside of an even slightly thick cut, especially if it’s frozen. Phase changes take a lot more energy to cross than simply heating through the same temperature change. That’s also why those fake ice cube things that aren’t water (stone, metal, etc.) really suck at actually chilling a drink as well as plain old ice.

I mean, come on. Being not too proud to ask for help, allowing someone else to feel useful and genuinely being appreciative of their help? That’s pretty fucking hot to be honest. Maybe I’m a slut for being made to feel useful and appreciated.
OG sandals involved socks always. Granted fashion has changed a bit over the various millennia since the invention of sandals and socks.
Wolf314159@startrek.websiteto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 | SDCC SurpriseEnglish2·5 days agoStrange New Worlds catches the feels of TOS without feeling dated. It honors the best of TOS, Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager, but leaves behind the parts that don’t really work anymore. There are women on the bridge and Rick Berman’s shadow is long gone. Although there is still some interpersonal drama, it doesn’t feel nearly as center stage as it did in Discovery, focusing more on the adventure and focusing less on ACTING-centric monologues that made Discovery unbearable sometimes. I wouldn’t call the politics luke warm, though they are maybe a more subtle and less center stage than they were in Discovery. In general, my feeling is that Strange New Worlds has distanced itself from all the parts of Discovery that didn’t work for me.
My chief gripe is that Spock is often way more emotional than makes sense.
-A millennial that watched every episode of Next Generation at least twice, once when they aired and again from VHS tapes when my dad got home from work. I guess I’ve watched them all way more than twice now.

Wolf314159@startrek.websiteto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•2.06 meters tall volleyball player Anna Smrek (1.60m man next to her for scale)91·6 days agoWhy? Height doesn’t automatically equate to back problems. Uneven weight distribution (belly, boobs, etc.), poor stretching habits, lack of excerise, bad posture/form/lifting, or injury equate to back problems at ANY height.

Wolf314159@startrek.websiteto Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Study: Going electric cleaner overall than keeping an old car runningEnglish134·9 days agoThis is only looking at emissions. It’s absolutely not considering the consequences of the heavy metal mining that is required to produce those massive batteries. It also totally ignores the problem of how to dispose of, reuse, or recycle those old batteries once they can no longer be effective in your vehicle.
Obviously we ultimately need to dump internal combustion engines, but focusing solely on emissions is a kind of green washing meant to convince you to consume. The 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) continue to be the most effective way for an individual to limit their environmental impact. Those first 2 R’s are all about reducing by taking public transport and re-using that older car (and keeping it well maintained to reduce consumption), not going out to buy the newest electric swastika.
Lisa, listen up!
