Xylight@lemdro.idto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Disney killed a bunch of puppies making "Snow Buddies" and weren't allowed to use the "no animals were harmed" claimEnglish26·9 days agoTranscription
An American Humane Certified Safety Representative visited the Snow Buddies set on the first day of filming. Fifteen Golden Retriever puppies were on set and fifteen other were being treated by a local veterinarian, and their illnesses were eventually diagnosed as Giardia and Coccidia. On request from the representative the remaining puppies on set received additional veterinary checks. Twenty-five of the puppies were from an American breeder and five were from a Canadian breeder. It was discovered that the puppies were approximately 8 weeks old, which lead to the belief that the puppies were only 6 weeks old when they were brought by the trainer to the movie set. Per the USDA it was at the time illegal to transport puppies under the age of 8 weeks.
After the removal of all 30 puppies, 28 older Golden Retriever puppies were brought in to continue filming. All of the 28 older puppies were exposed to parvovirus. Five of the puppies died, and up to six others fell ill after exposure to the virus.
As a result, the film was not permitted to use the “No animals were harmed…” disclaimer and received an “Unacceptable” marking from the American Humane Association.
I’ll stick to FUTA.

Xylight@lemdro.idto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you like AI? What model(s)? If so, or not, why?English93·18 days agoLLMs are such an amazing technology, but they are used and understood completely wrong by the corporate world.
People are growing dependent on it which is a problem, but the transformer model is really cool imo.
Xylight@lemdro.idto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What happens to the content if an Lemmy instance shuts down?English21·18 days agoThe way ActivityPub federation works, once an instance is “linked” (like lemm.ee linking with lemmy.world, lemdro.id, etc), the instance will now send them an event once a post is made or something like that.
For example:
- lemm.ee —links–> lemmy.world
- lemm.ee user makes a post A
- lemm.ee —notifies–> lemmy.world
- lemmy.world makes a copy of post A.
So yes, every Lemmy instance stores copies of new data from other instances once they link.
You can access Photon at https://phtn.app/ to use any instance, or selfhost.
Additionally, some instances I’d recommend that use photon are
- lemdro.id (which uses it as their primary!)
- p.lemmy.world
- photon.slrpnk.net
I’m curious why your instance, sh.itjust.works, hosts Tesseract but not Photon. They have diverged so much they cannot be considered similar.
It was forked around a year or more back I believe. They are completely different projects now imo. Photon aims for the best UX and speed, while Tesseract aims to be super feature-rich.
I believe this is a form of the phenomenon Papyrus Irony
I really want to rewrite my API code to make it server agnostic, so I can support many fediverse platforms at once. If I add Piefed support the quick way, there’ll basically be a bunch of checks saying “if server = Piefed, hide this button”.
I could do it the quick and dirty way right now if that’s what people want.
edit: quick and dirty method will take less than a week, proper method will take months

Me? I HATE THE STUPID “VERIFYING YOUR REQUEST” PROMPTS. THEY TAKE WAYYY TOO LONG AND DONT WORK WITH MY USER AGENT SWITCHER. STUPID WEBSITES WITH 3 MONTHLY USERS ARE TURNING ON ADVANCED “DDOS PROTECTION” JUST TO MAKE EVERY FUNCTION OF THEIR APP TAKE 18 MONTHS

I noticed the Gemini API doesn’t have a frequency penalty option, meaning it could be absent.

The current version of Photon uses the inline reply style, so this is fixed
