  • Thanks for the correction – I’ve fixed it.

I’m glad to know that a T1 run is possible with at least Warden and Rogue. I can’t even begin to imagine how you were able to complete those runs! Respect.

It’s also good to hear about other self-imposed challenges people have tried. Going potionless and/or scrolless is something I’ll try for sure in the future!

  • As @mrsemi said, mind vision (ability and/or potion) plus projecting allows you to kill mobs without them being able to retaliate. My second favorite enchantment is grim, with elastic a third, especially with a ring of arcana. The only thing I don’t like about elastic is that there are some enemies, such as gnoll shamans, that you want to keep in melee range.

  • The first challenge is living long enough to become a battlemage: getting past the jail and tengu with only tier-1 items is hard. The second challenge is surviving the inevitable heavy damage in the city; in my experience viscosity and stone are almost useless with a cloth armor. But, by all means try it out! I’d like to know how it goes.

Yes! That’s what I did. I needed to upgrade the leather armor to survive the jail and the first few levels of caves. Once I got the ring, I used the SoU on the ring and my thrown weapon (to activate the sniper shot). With the shared enchantment talent, the fishing spear became grim as well!

  • Thanks!

Upgrade scrolls: actually I haven’t upgraded my weapon at all (I found the sword +1 somewhere in the jail). I’m hoping to find a +2 or +3 tier-3 weapon. I also have an enchantment stone, waiting for the right weapon. Also, I’ve only spent two SoU on the armor (found at +2, another +2 from the troll).

Interesting idea to use a freerunner. That’s a class that I’ve never tried, though, and it seems difficult to use well (like the duellist monk).

Regarding rings and wands, I don’t put any restrictions on them, since (as you said) they don’t have a tier, so they’re fair game.

  • After being able to consistently win without challenges, I activated three and then two challenges, only to consistently lose! I had to take it slow and learn new strategies for each challenge, and then learn to apply them all at once. You also need to be lucky and get the right equipment!

TLDR, take it slow and keep trying to improve your strategy, eventually you’ll get there.

  • To add to other comments:

    • This wand is much more useful when upgraded, since you get more powerful wards/sentries.
    • The first three zaps produce wards, which shoot a specific number of times.
    • The next three zaps produce sentries, which will zap once every two turns until killed.
    • You can place wards anywhere you have vision, even across walls.

I’ve tried playing with a staff of warding once or twice, but I don’t think I’ve managed to win yet. It’s a fun wand but it requires planning and careful management of charges. One thing I enjoyed doing was placing a couple of sentries in a spot that mob patrols would frequent. No more random mobs to worry about!
