I’ve always been a nerd, always enjoyed cool new technology, but the industry has become so drenched in assholery that this “grimy residue” has become its main feature.

I’m sure they’ll find something even more problematic to dump money into sooner or later.
Of course it’s not only ai, but the article’s subhead: “Statistics raise concerns that rise in demand for data processing driven by AI could derail climate targets”
Can we just cancel the whole “ai” thing? It was fun for a bit, now it’s just problems.
It’s amazing how little progress we’ve made in 37 years.
I had to look this up, so for anyone else who is curious… https://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1989/10/29
The only way it makes sense is if Hobbes transforms into a stuffed tiger when other people are around, to conceal his true identity.
Something about the way this was processed makes it look like a video game.
“any flavour you like, as long as it’s swamp water!”
Ah no worries, reading is hard sometimes :P
They all seem legit. I don’t have personal experience here, but I’ve seen many from the outside, and spoken with women whose experiences certainly don’t sound anything like “life on easy mode”.
And even those 3 advantages only apply to certain women. It’s so easy to generalize, but what if you’re fat, or gay, or something? What if you’re an asexual Muslim who loves opening doors? Poof. No advantages, only hard mode.
It really is made of cheese!
The problem the article discusses is called “capitalism”, and its consequences are not an “oopsie, we miscalculated!” The system is working as intended—further enriching the elites who control it.
To make serious improvements, we have to remove those elites from their positions of power, and there’s the rub. They would rather go full fascist than compromise their privilege.
There are about a hundred of these that sometimes hang out in the shrubbery in front of my place. They make a delightful racket. Also adorable when they visit the local restaurant patios hoping for dropped crumbs 🤎
