Almost learned this the hard way with a coworker. Mentioned to my boss that another (previously overweight) guy in our office had clearly lost a lot of weight and that I hadn’t had a chance to let him know he was looking good, and my boss got wide-eyed and said, “Don’t do that…he’s got stage III cancer.”

Hmm, what happened to “They’re sending us their criminals!”??

You’re right, but I just noticed something about that (I’m probably very late to the party here): so an endpoint of unregulated capitalism is that ownership is limited to a few, who almost certainly acquired ownership through some form of class exploitation and theft. Or, to oversimplify it…ownership is theft. Hmm, sounds familiar.
You sound like one of my PMs. “Klugerama, your coworker was able to resolve a UI issue in just 3 days, why did it take you over 3 weeks to convert 50k lines of code from C# to Java?”
“there are some similarities so they are the same because it supports my argument”

there’s been plenty of times when I’m bored at work, and could totally get away with browsing whatever on lemmy; but I don’t feel like having a conversation with HR because someone walks by my desk. I’d much rather know there’s something here that might offend someone (even if it doesn’t offend me, or you personally for that matter).
Fred Trump?
Read the article. That’s not at all what this is about.
I went to a screening of John Dies at the End in 2012 and met Don Coscarelli afterwards. He was standing off to the side chatting with someone who appeared to be a friend of his.
I’d brought my DVD of Bubba Ho-Tep and asked him to autograph it. He looked at me for a couple of seconds, turned to his friend, and said “Can you believe that it’s been 10 years, and people still like this movie?” We all laughed and he was happy to sign it. Very cool guy.

Not a controlled environment but it’s happened several times, with varied results.
Not glass, but hardened resin. Used to track littoral currents and drift. Has metal so it can be found later with a metal detector.
I’m frankly plussed.
