  • My issue anymore is not with paying taxes, it’s how disproportionately they are applied across income brackets. In IL, we have some of the highest property taxes in the States, yet our schools are still needing to cut back on music and art programs I grew up experiencing because they don’t have enough funding and test scores didn’t care if you can play the cello. The roads and their platforms of potholes are a minefield, public places are rusting and falling apart, and we’re being told that there’s just no money and that austerity is the only way to make anything work, now.

No, austerity is not the only way if the rich paid their taxes. Righting this ship, this far after Reagan gutted most social safety nets and hamstrung a lot of programs aimed at helping anyone but the rich, is going to be extremely difficult until the geriatric boomers, who refuse to leave positions of power, left or are removed. Until (and if it’s even possible now) we get back to that level of taxation of wealth, we will never have the life they tell us we get to live nor the world we want to raise a family in.

Money and the wealthy. Everything I was told to look forward to when I got older was smashed and lit on fire in front of my fucking eyes by people who have never wanted for anything. I’m 40, now. I saw the birth of videogames and the Internet, only to watch it get burned down around me so some nepo-baby with a silver spoon can have another zero in their bank account.

We are one of the only generations to have their life be WORSE OFF than their parents, and it hurts the most because those parents likely participated in, or voted for, the very mechanisms that led here. If I’m ever terminally diagnosed with some illness, you’ll see me become the Mario to our modern Luigi.

  • It’s like they can’t come to terms with the way life is and that they might not be the center of everyone’s world. My 5yo has the same problem. Tomorrow doesn’t seem to exist for him, he thinks anything he wants to have he should have because he wants it, doesn’t believe in giving, even to kids he calls “friends” at school, some of something he has and needs it all himself, and getting him to be quiet for a few min while having a conversation with anyone but him will result in him relentlessly trying to get our attention. Oh, and a lot of the stuff he wants to do makes no sense and sometimes goes completely against the laws that govern matter.

Our society is being driven off a cliff by people who have the same mentality as a child who hasn’t learned to share. Grown ass mother fuckers, with no empathy or understanding of their insignificance in the universe, so they go scorched-Earth to get their way. It would be fucking pathetic if there wasn’t so much on the line.

  • The Trump administration looks like when a new manager takes over a functional team, doesn’t know how anything works, can’t be bothered to try to understand, and just starts breaking established processes to prove that they’re in charge.

Except in places I’ve worked where this happened the new boss was on probation and could more easily be let go for poor performance. We tried something like that with tRump with two impeachments.

There’s no such thing as a recall election for the president, at least not for 4-years. And that’s a long time from now. Took only 80 days to get here from inauguration. We, and the global markets, will never recover if they leave it to us to fix it. Rest of the world can go on without us.
