Canada’s Westminster system the PM also gets Right Honourable as an title, going to assume it’s similar based on some googling so you could totally use The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer, but I’ve very very rarely seen news media use full titles outside of reporting on ceremonial activities.

Bit of a rant because it’s been on my mind.

Also thank them for killing the per vote subsidy, proroguing parliament to effectively kill a coalition gov, trying to convince Canadians that coalitions are somehow antidemocratic and a seizure of power, muzzling of scientists, barbaric cultural practices hotline, robocall scandal, mandatory minimums, missing more but there was a lot to cover in those years.

I don’t know how anyone looks back at the harper years and thinks oh it wasn’t that bad, we should totally elect one of his cabinet ministers, no it totally was a taste of things to come, dude’s the chair of the idu which totally pushes this shit on a global scale.

Harper SHOULD be the Tories’ Bob Rae in terms of making them toxic to the general population, literally the reason so many people voted strategically. Maybe it’s a bunch of us not remembering, a lot of what I mentioned was some time ago, maybe it’s that a lot of Canadians anecdotally seem more interested in what’s happening stateside than their own backyard and are generally don’t pay attention to politics but it seriously concerns me.

I could totally go for a iPhone 4s sized phone, it’s nice to be able to easily reach across the entire phone with one thumb.

That said I loved my lumia 1020 and will totally be keeping an eye out for these.

Man I paid $100 cad for a 60 gig ssd in 2012 and I thought that was cheap, around the time they were closing into $1/gig, I’ve bought a few 256gig crucial data ssds for drive swaps on old machines and for family and they’re all around $50 and you can actually use them as more than a boot drive, heck the 256 gig nvme drive and enclosure I grabbed as an external drive was under $100, it’s wild how cheap storage has gotten in a decade.

34 now, been on meds since getting diagnosed 2.5 years ago, I failed calc 2 because I bombed the exam (luckily I could rewrite) and scraped by a few I had zero interest in. Also still recall one prof in my last year emailing me asking why I hadn’t turned in assignments, I totally did cost-benefit analysis on every course to see what was worth doing and what I could get away with and still pass, helped that 70-90% of your final grade was the final exam in a good chunk of my courses. Uni is where my maladaptive coping mechanisms come from, I binged, used self induced stress as a motivator, would pound a pot of coffee myself during exams, only developed a lot of these skills relatively recently with medication and 4 years of therapy. No wonder I still struggle with internalised negativity to this day.

In retrospect I don’t know how no one ever suspected or suggested it to me, I’m moderate combined and it’s caused me physical, financial and relationship issues in my past, I always just got called “aloof” or “head in the clouds”, I masked hard but that caused my issues outside of work and school, only have so much energy. I’m also certain one if not both of my parents have ADHD which might contribute to the late diagnosis, ADHD behaviours are totally normalised.

The task bar change annoyed the hell out of me, get why people were so upset with w8 now, I’ve been a top taskbar person since xp, small gripe but it jarred me, at least the hotkeys didn’t change, the hiding of context menus irks me too, if you are going to do things like that, let me toggle it off. Windows has been getting increasingly frustrating to power users, more annoying to me because winget is solid and windows terminal is actually really nice.

Same boat, work is windows, I’ve found it easier to work on a linux VM or totally in wsl with a chunk of tasks, had grief with docker too which to be fair, I’m pretty sure most of these issues are because of group policies, company i work for bought tech firms but the central IT is setup for business users so things like local admin I had to fight for weeks to get just to install the azure CLI.

Totally fair, on the tip side I’ll totally admit I’ve modified some to fit in my older Weller station I use as a dedicated heatset iron, it has heater cartridge that’s semicircular so the tips run the length of the iron. That said, I mainly do through hole and connector soldering, I’m not doing a lot of precision work, pretty much grabbed it because I was familiar with the iron and knew that it’d be comfortable for me. Think I use my heatset iron the most out of anything tbf, got me thinking about tools to recover inserts, that’d be super nice to have.

Oh for sure, totally appreciate that Weller is pricey, and I’d totally expect good tips on a knockoff to perform well. For me it’s going to come down to preference, wish I could try a bunch of different irons before buying, I at least had experience with wellers so I knew that I found them comfortable to work with and I’m not doing a ton of surface mount or fine stuff so meets my needs.

I’ll suggest Weller irons as a solid alternate as well, pretty much the only irons I’ve used in the last decade or so, mainly because the job I soldered in a lot used Wellers, had some lower end variable ones beat to hell in field bags that still run perfect today (actually my dedicated insert iron). I have a WE1010NA that I use now and it’s a solid tool.

100% a title that would struggle with full controller, for me it was cities skylines and rimworld. Also played a lot of warframe and spec ops:the line with mine, being able to have actions trigger at different points of the trigger pull was interesting, had a profile I grabbed for shooters that’d enable gyro aiming at the last bit of your trigger pull for fine adjustment and seriously, it works extremely well once you get used to it. The pads also supported osd rotary menus for hotkeys which was probably what the left pad got the most use out of, had the ability to set different behaviour too using mod buttons are by touching the rim of the pad. Also the haptic feedback on the pads was interesting, did a lot to make them feel more real, seriously had a really powerful piece of hardware with the og steam controller.

Totally was, it didn’t have rumble for battery life reasons, but didn’t miss it much at the time, barely used the rumble pack on the n64, think I got mine at EB games to try out the OOT secret hint feature (it’d buzz the pack if you were near a hidden secret), feedback has come a LONG way since then in terms of immersion.

I really liked the wavebird for the gamecube, unfortunately mine went into the aether on my last move, got bluetooth adapters to pair modern controllers with it but the wavebird was really cool at the time, was really amazing to not have to be tethered to the console and it being first party, though at the time the madcatz stuff was decent.

For recent controllers, I’ve been using a knockoff 360 controller for moonlight recently and after a lot of back and forth I really think MS nailed the controller setup back then (OG Xbox being decent but not a preference, I hated the duke, s controller was solid though), I like the xbone controllers as well, but IMO they’re just iterations on the 360 controller, easily my preference as an all rounder controller layout.

I have a steam controller, used it for a while but it’s been some time now, had some really great ideas, I’d totally go for an updated steamdeck style layout on that, probably a second for me.

I’ve had so much drift issues with ds4s that I personally don’t reach for a ds4 or dualsense for non playstation games, I like being able to swap batteries and the Xbox/Steam controllers all seem to have way better battery life in general, I keep a stock of rechargeables around so not generating piles of waste.

I found Freecad has become fairly intuitive if you already have traditional parametric cad experience, there’s definitely a few quirks but generally super easy to adapt to if you come from solidworks, inventor and the like, trying to convince my dad to give it a try as he’s been getting back into design since retiring and he’s been paying for a solid works license. Personally use ondsel but mainline freecad is totally usable.

Edit: Yeah, just use the RealThunder fork, was running into the Topological Naming Problem a few times today which was frustrating me on top of a few other (probably self induced) annoyances. I was using the mainline freecad before with ModernUI Workbench as a plugin which gives you ribbon menus, I actually prefer it over the UX changes on the most recent Ondsel release.

Kinda sounds like combine infill layers in prusa/super slicer, that setting will have it do the perimeters as per normal but do infil at 1/2/3 etc layers, so 0.2 layers would get infill every 0.4 at 2, so it’ll print the perimeters and anything that can’t be merged, go to the next layer and do the perimeters and chunky infill, I use it to save time and I haven’t noticed much difference in functionality.

Supposed to be an easy, if not a drop in replacement afaik, it’s under a permissive licence (Apache 2.0), beyond that it’s authored by RedHat I can’t tell you much else, it’s something I’ve been considering moving to personally (and work, pretty much for licencing and the few of us that want to use more open tech stacks) I just haven’t had a chance to work with it.

Supposedly able to pull docker images and work with docker-compose, just not swarm.

I don’t use mine much anymore but I still have it out, was a really cool idea and while it had a learning curve, definitely made controller gaming possible with a lot of titles, steam input in general these days is fantastic for that but even so I’d totally buy a steam deck layout steam controller v2.
