I’m surprisingly level-headed for being a walking knot of anxiety.
Ask me anything.

It’s like “Wisconsin Roulette” for me, and I definitely pick my battles because I do love cheese. Sometimes I can eat a whole plate of mozzarella sticks and be (relatively) fine, other times a sprinkle of Parmesan will double me over in pain. The dairy free cheese is only like 30 cents more than the regular, so I just stick with that to be safe.
I have to use the dairy-free cheese (lactose intolerant), so perhaps it doesn’t bind it together as well? I do know I used to be a lot better about not ruining it during the flip lol
That basically describes 9 out of 10 times I try to make an omelette. I call the failed attempt “scrambled eggs with benefits” and they’re usually just as good as or better than the omelette would have been.
For me, it helped that I chose locations where it “made sense” but was also convenient.
I’ve got a big, decorative bowl on a table by the front door where my wallet, keys, etc go. Basically all the stuff I need when I leave the house is there, and I dump them back immediately when I get home.
My remotes, e-reader, laptop, etc are usually on the coffee table. When I’m not using them, they go inside (it’s a lift-top with storage inside).
Just little stuff like that + forcing myself to repeat until it’s a habit.
Me: I’mma just put this right here so I know where to find it
(never sees it again)
I’ve had to make designated spaces for things and always put them there. Took some training, but has been working well.
Someone: Ugh, the recipe is in grams, and I need it in ounces.
Me: Just divide by 28
Them: How’d you know that?
Me: …👀
I don’t remember what publisher made the ones we inherited from grandma. I recognize World Book, but I can’t say that’s what they were. I’m not sure if those old encyclopedias are still floating around somewhere in the family or if whoever had them last finally got rid of them.
A lot of the info in them was definitely still solid, agree.
Yep!
And everyone who’s praising vouchers (in the US, anyway) need to know that that money is being redirected from an already under-funded public school.
Ah, gotcha. Lol, the timing of it just made me wonder.
So, it stands to reason an EV sedan would create even less pollution than an EV SUV, right? Where’s my EV sedan? lol
When your meme doesn’t do as well as expected
That could possibly be my fault, but I don’t apologize.
As the admin of the instance this community lives on, I’ve taken a hard-line stance against extremist rhetoric. I’ve probably banned close to 100 accounts in the last few days, possibly more, because they were directly advocating murder (this follows a similar ban-wave several months ago when similar rhetoric flared up). Digital lynch mobs are not the kind of demographic I want to platform here. Having run this instance for going on 2 years, I’ve found temp bans and dealing with individual submissions for that sort of thing to be ineffective.
I posted an updated Mission Statement yesterday that goes over this in more detail.
Sorry to reduce your audience, but I do hope you can understand why.
Edit: @meatcat@dubvee.org I hope you understand as well. If you’ve got concerns, please DM me and we can figure something out.
I’m assuming an envelope of yeast is in no way close to a packet of yeast? lol because that would be too easy.
Ours would deliberately omit things.
The old secret ingredient. I don’t think we had to contend with that, thankfully.
It’s like translating grandma’s units of measurements from her old recipes.
“A smidge of this, three sprinkles of that, and a can full of something that does not come in a can” (The can was her ‘measuring can’ that was some kind of weird size that doesn’t exist anymore)
Edit: After she passed, we threw the can away because we didn’t realize it was the can and load-bearing to most of her recipes. After some best guesses + trial and error, we concluded the can was approximately 7 ounces / just under a cup.
There’s still probably someone out there who’s like “Finally! I’ve been waiting for that to go on sale”
Ex Baptist, currently “none”.
Grew up in church via parental mandate, did all the church stuff because I was required to, but never really fully bought into it. Didn’t go to the local Christian school (thank god, ironically), but that was probably because we couldn’t afford it. Eventually moved out, went to college, and never looked back.
Was attending a family event about 8 or 9 years ago, and there was a church service afterward. I grudgingly went, and it just brought back bad memories and it finally clicked why I didn’t want to be a part of it (I knew I didn’t want to be a part of it, but never could put my finger on exactly why until I’d been out for years and saw things fresh).
I do, but I also know that I’m not alone in that experience.
I grew up in the 90s, so we had Encarta for most of the time I needed an encyclopedia.
It also wasn’t uncommon to have a (partial) set of encyclopedias at home. You could buy them, one or more volumes at a time, over the phone or occasionally from door-to-door salespeople. We also had an old set from the 60s that we inherited from my grandmother.
El Blue del Ping Pong has a mild effect like that (with actual ping-pong balls, too).
You caught me lol
