when I first saw the bike comic I remember struck me as exactly what someone would write in the midst of a pathetic attempt at positive thinking. but if it represents how he genuinely felt, for me it goes from cringe and not that interesting to just not interesting
that comic is especially enraging to right wingers. thatās where Iāve seen the most sustained loathing for it. the idea that despised lowlies are stealing your shit and you must strike back/first is fundamental to right wing ideology, especially the right wing conception of masculinity. youāre supposed to hate the people lower than you in the hierarchy largely because their existence is theft. a guy not being mad about actual real theft by some city rando spits on a premise their whole ideology rests on
it kind of reminds me of the āI really like girlsā video which Iām too lazy to pull up. itās just a streamer doing a cute little rap about how he really likes women, and someone put a mildly cringe animation over it. very online right wingers hate hate hate that video, because youāre not supposed to actually like women, because theyāre lower than men in the hierarchy. or such would be the subtext when they ranted about it
hmm this got me scrolling through his TL. I didnāt know or forgot that shen is actually a really good poster, shame I didnāt follow him while I was on twitter
the nuanced take nobody wants to hear: farts are a tool, and like any tool they can be used for good or bad. thatās what progress is. we canāt let the possibility of a few bad uses of farts overshadow how farts can unleash the futures of truly creative individuals, businesses and societies.
to address another common point: yes, there are kinks to be worked out. sometimes farted information can be wrong. farted music doesnāt always come out with the clarity we want. farted art is sometimes missing details. but farts are already revolutionizing and democratizing the arts, science, and even the concept of human interaction. we canāt lose sight of the great potential of farting - just like the early days of the internet, we donāt know what amazing things weāll end up with because of it.
went and peeked at the ezra klein podcast on the off chance heās gotten into anything interesting
lol
Iām not that cultured either

holy shit. we are having completely opposite experiences
tbh my experience has been that YT comments are dramatically better than they used to be
i assume the shirt is ironic haha
idk what this is but extremely funny image
I like most of this article but
Instead, hundreds of couples gathered in a public space and sucked face. The women wore what we might call immodest clothing and the couples groped each other and kissed and kissed and kissed some more. For the police and the Turkish regime, this was an āirresolvable dilemma.ā The police could not possibly turn violent against these smooching protesters. They would look brutal and, in some ways, silly. The public would surely sympathize with the kissing anti-authoritarians if force were deployed. Police are trained to respond to force, not non-violence. In this case, they slinked away and the protesters cheered and, in some cases, made out a little more.
did the law change
The townspeople didnāt engage the neo-nazi marchers with threats and force. Residents and local businesses instead pledged money for every mile the fascists walked in their journey to Hessā burial site. They raised about $12,000 and gave the money to an organization dedicated to de-radicalizing young people trying to exit extremist groups. Protestors threw rainbow confetti on the neo-nazis as they passed the finish line of the marathon route the pro-democracy group had created as a way of mocking the little fascist walk. These adherents to a hideous political ideology were made into subjects of ridicule. They were made to be fools by folks who smartly refused to engage them the way they wanted to be engaged: With violence.
did they stop marching to the grave
idk the answer to the previous two questions but that he didnāt say is pretty sus
Pro-democracy activists have shown that far-right demonstrations of power have six core goals: To legitimize their views, strengthen their self-image as part of the downtrodden, unite their squabbling factions, attract new people to the movement, control media coverage, and feel powerful and heroic. All of these goals were met with the violent counter demonstrations in Charlottesville. It could not have turned out better for the fascists.
Charlottesville was an unmitigated disaster for the far right
In fact, movements with a mere 3.55 percent of the population actively supporting them have never failed, according to Pranksters vs. Autocrats, a comprehensive review of nonviolence and dilemma actions.
credulous
Smearing your opponent as weird and out of step with the American voter is as good a strategy as weāve seen in the 21st century. Is it high minded and philosophical? No, itās not. Are normies high minded and philosophical? No, theyāre not. This is why Marxists have largely failed to gain power. They think too much.

What if our simulated universe is actually way, way less terrible than the real world? What if the simulation was created specifically to have lower suffering/higher utils than in reality?
certain sentences youāve extracted suggest the author considers severe suffering incomparably worse than any pleasure (for example why would āremoving sufferingā necessarily improve the universe? in a framework where suffering and pleasure are comparably significant factors, it is possible that removing suffering would remove enough pleasure to tip the balance negative).
thatās a point of view Iām very sympathetic to, but it means external reality would almost certainly be worse than the simulation, because the external reality contains the simulation, and therefore contains at least as much severe suffering as the simulation. put another way, is it worse for a torture chamber to exist, or for torture chamber makers to exist?
I think what this is highlighting is a disconnect in their thinking between what I presume to be a greatest good based utilitarian framework, and what they actually think is cool and are talking about, which is heroic individual action. they want to present as hari seldon but theyāre really wanking about pulp adventure shit
Iām completely sympathetic to you here despite the edit. sorry that happened and Iām glad you found some way to help in dealing with it
itās often easier to pirate the published version of your own paper than to access it by official means
sometimes Iām trying to decide whether to pay for a bagel with credit or ethereum, and I go with credit because itās got nice bridges, chain abstraction protocols and cross-L2 UX
