I recently had to explain to my boomer mom why a Ring doorbell was a bad idea. She didn’t seem to get that the system is cheap because it’s constantly feeding whatever it sees to both Ring and your local cops.
I’m a little teapot 🫖

Glassholes was coined back when Google was working on Google Glass about 10-12y ago and people kept theirs on and recording while in public
Welp, guess it’s time for IR reflective tattoos to defeat facial recognition
Proving once again that it’s time for emulator developers to publish code on a federated git platform with TOR capability.
Yeah, serve the cobbler warm with a scoop of expensive high fat vanilla ice cream and it’s perfection
Uhhh… Anyone know what the fuck is happening over at the EPA???
Years of Republican attacks on federal agencies (the EPA in particular) with the Trump admin as the trigger man
Makers of virgin plastics should be required to pay the cost of disposing of those plastics
Japanese Amazon is popular with people who want to import goods directly from Japan so I’d say this isn’t a universal thing
Get ready for corporate announcing the layoff of 67% of the workforce
I’m convinced that raisins are only popular because they were a luxury food for our grandparents and they only exist in these dishes because that’s what our grandparents thought rich people would do with raisins when they were kids.
I babysat our old neighbor’s cat a couple of times while she was out of town. Said cat would only drink water from a pitcher placed under the leaky bathtub faucet and was constantly angry at the drops on her head. Cats are very clever idiots.
So we’re back to briefcase computing from the early 90s
Now serve it with a scoop of high quality vanilla ice cream
That old man looks happy to have someone to care for him. Once he clears his FeLV and FIV tests and is dewormed I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to live inside.
I mean, that’s your path forward if you want a current graphics stack. Linux Mint is a Ubuntu derivative, there’s no supported frankendistro that updates everything on your current mint release to current versions of the kernel, drivers, mesa and all the rest of the libraries you want for up to date software support - you get that with a rolling release distro rather than a snapshot distro frozen 6-24mo ago when they cut your current release version.
More secure legally. You generally can’t be compelled to disclose a password that incriminates you (unless it’s already apparent that you’re guilty of wrong-doing) but a thing (physical key, fingerprint, etc) isn’t protected in the same way and can be demanded by the court.
Whether biometric are secure or not is another question, they can be stolen like any other data or a motivated attacker could just take you or your fingers.
The real benefit of super high refresh rates is the decrease in latency for input. At lower rates the lag between input and the next frame is extremely apparent, above about ~144hz it’s much less noticable.
The other side effect of running at high fps is that when heavy processing occurs and there are frame time lags they’re much less noticable because the minimum fps is still very high. I usually tell people not to pay attention to the maximum fps rather look at the average and min.
angry American noises
That’s not really the case with current Nvidia GPUs (yet anyway) - the Nvidia provided dkms driver is the best option outside very limited use cases
It’s possible to go after both. M$ has some fucked up practices that trick the user into using edge that shouldn’t be okay
