The only thing you need to know is that Randy Pitchford was involved. This guarantees it’s going to be a shitshow.

Oh no whatever will he do with only half the amount of millions how will he ever survive he’s just like the 1500+ people he sacked with no severance
I get that it’s a step in the right direction; treating this as anything less than the travesty it kinda demeans all the people he fucked
So why are you supporting someone who uses GitHub at all? Why are you continuing to be part of the problem, as you put it? It doesn’t make any sense for a hardline position like this to come anywhere near an instance that’s got pro-GitHub admins. Hell, your mislabeled license comes from GitHub. Why are you not using something else untainted by Microsoft?
If you’re unwilling to support a dev through the channels they want support through, why are you willing to consume their product? Is it okay because their code is only stored on GitHub but compiled and run elsewhere? How many levels of obfuscation do you need?
Holy shit my 401(k)s went down by around 8% which means Fortune article on me when‽ I lost more than Bezos!
Just alias pdoman=podman
. I do that with all my common typos.
That explanation runs counter to my experience with VC-funded companies, marketing budgets, and running in the red in general. Trying to hit as much of the total addressable market as possible means burning money. Notice how I expanded and included discounts? You don’t even get a 5% off code. Framework is making a profit so they can lose margin on a low percentage (if they’re not making a profit then there’s no reason to not throw away more to get closer to TAM anyway).
Board games run in the thousands for some of the bigger ticket items. I’m not sure you understand either market. I regularly crowdfund packages that are more than at least 25% of the Framework prices I’m skimming now.
You’ve done a great job summarizing the bad things they’re doing!
Game promos are usually expensive long-term because they’re produced in limited batches.
Most board game companies run off Kickstarter. Your distinction doesn’t really apply because it’s not normal to get external funding. Framework just hit their Series A which, usually, includes money for marketing and running in the red. Board game companies usually can’t run in the red.
I thought that there was no way this was unpaid and that the ambassadors would get Framework tech. Nope. You have to already own it. Doesn’t even seem like it comes with a discount even?
I am a product “ambassador” for several things in the gaming world. I get access to new things earlier and at a discounted rate. I get free promotional items that actually have some value. I sometimes get a per diem if I do certain events. I feel valued. I don’t get that vibe at all from this.
I did read it! That’s why I linked it. I think the author’s opinion is a very bad one, just like yours. You have one fucking rich white dude making global policy. As the author calls out, that’s oligarchy. Unlike the author, I don’t ever think that’s a good thing.
Here are the links you missed:
The other links really just talk about how Gates makes money while saying his goal is to make the world a better place. You and the author think that’s tolerable; I don’t. If you’ll notice, I called out the problem is one rich white dude controlling global power, the article says that’s bad, and you agreed with the ‘Rona take so I’m not sure why we’re focused on the tepid idea that he could do more. His philanthropy exists to make him more money; if it didn’t he’d back the fuck off and actually spend more money. Doerr’s analysis of the Gates Foundation is equally bad.
I’m not coming down one way or another on stealing code from Gates. It was a drastic departure from how things worked at the time. I am saying you can’t write a letter like that and then not pay PARC.
Both Jobs and Gates visited PARC and were aware of what Xerox was doing. Apple lost their suit against Microsoft for this because Xerox got involved. It’s so tenuous to argue it was stolen from Apple and that’s mostly based in Jobs fandom. Jobs was, surprise surprise, also a huge piece of shit and an incredibly, unapologetically deadbeat dad until his death.
I feel like the obvious answer is “a dead one” but we’re seeing Rupert Murdoch really fuck the pooch with that one.
Embrace, extend, and extinguish wasn’t Microsoft against big corps. Someone else linked the Halloween Documents which come after this. In ‘76 Gates wrote An Open Letter to Hobbyists decrying any unpaid work and later stole everything from The Mother of all Demos (specifically its descendants at PARC) without compensation.
I’m not sure what you’re on about in any of your threads defending Gates. Whataboutism doesn’t reduce any of his problems.
Read that fourth link and its links. Basically the Gates Foundation controls world health these days. If you don’t agree with it, you don’t move forward. Agreeing with it means you have to agree with Bill who, and this might surprise you, actually has no fucking medical training or education. His approach to lots of things really fucks shit up. It’s very debatable that the short-term impact (fighting things like malaria fairly well) is worth the long-term shitshow (see Gates attempting to lock down and profit from the ‘Rona vaccine).
John Doerr has a hilarious anecdote in Measure What Matters that he intends to be seen as the power of rich white dudes making shit up but in reality is very telling. Bono makes some foundation for shit in Africa. Nothing works. Doesn’t do the things it wants to do. Suddenly someone has the brilliant idea to maybe include an actual African dealing with the problems they’re looking at instead of a bunch of rich people disconnected from everything. It’s presented as a revelation! The power of OKRs! In reality it’s fucking money blindness. Would I wish Gates were more like Koch or Musk? Fuck no. Why are you telling me I have to have a serial sexual harasser trying to kill things that make the world better because he can’t profit from them?

Don’t let his Reddit Secret Santa PR campaigns blind you. He’s a rich guy with a fake story pulling the ladder up behind him and using his wealth to ensure things go his way, not the best way. Do just a little bit more digging than the superficial shit I’ve shared with you here and you’ll learn he’s really just a piece of shit.
According to movie commentary, depends on who you talk to. Wikipedia lists the budget as 1.8mil and a box office of either 4mil or 1.3mil so it’s kinda unclear what the truth is.
I don’t understand how they can say “overly sexualised voyages into space” and not include Galaxy of Terror. The worm rape scene that didn’t need to be in the movie and Corman forced back in makes it a much better contender for the slot Barbarella is in. On a script, camp, and exploitation level it is worse in every way and it’s even a ripoff of Alien to boot, arguably making it worse than Alien v Predator: Requiem which at least tries to be original.
I own it on laserdisc. The only reason I’ve seen it more than once is because people are surprised Sid Haig and Robert Englund did a movie together. It’s fucking bad and holy shit is the worm rape scene the fucking peak of Corman being a misogynistic, exploitative walnut. To be totally frank it really disgusts me that he still gets a platform (legacy) after forcing this scene into the movie and directing it himself, even if some people think it contributed to the movie’s commercial success.
