“During the Trump administration, cities were largely ignored, during the Biden administration, we have enjoyed a good relationship and we have seen record investment in our communities and we are seeing economic prosperity as a result of that,” he elaborated. …

“… Again, we would go back to being largely ignored and really, even more than that, the subject of hostile attacks from the federal government. And so I thought in the best interest of my city it was important that I speak up; silence in this situation was not an option.”

honestly i don’t even know what the republican “ideal” is anymore, since it seems to me to be nothing more than “do whatever the 1% wants” for the last 20+ years

Some of the ideals they claimed to follow weren’t necessarily bad. Fiscal conservatism isn’t inherently a bad thing, the problem is that Republicans were highly selective about when they cared about it.

            Completely agree.

Balanced budget, working away the debt, making sure you don’t run a deficit? All totally sensible. But you do that by making the government more efficient and raising tax revenue, not slashing funding willy nilly

Let’s not confuse conservatives with Trump supporters. “Republican” is an outdated label.

Although I don’t agree with a lot of “conservative” policies, I respect people with conservative views who advocate for those views respectfully and in good faith, where their only crime is to be a bit misguided.

The Trump movement, meanwhile, is just a naked power grab by everyone involved. Absolutely nothing redeeming there.

The non-maga conservatives created this situation. They’ve knowingly voted for bigots and fascists for the last 30+ years. What do you call someone who repeatedly votes for fascists?

Conservatives are completely responsible for maga and for the state of the conservative party. Conservatives did this. A small minority of them may now regret it, but they are still 100% responsible for all of this.

“Conservatives” have a very important choice to make this November. They could’ve ended this insanity a while ago, but keep choosing their old team instead (who barely bother anymore with traditionally conservative legislation).

The T**** cult looks more like the Taliban (religious fundamentalists, extremists… terrorists) with every new revelation we non-weirdos learn (from the likes of Jeffrey Dahmer Vance, Project 2025, etc). I would not doubt a bunch of them have now actually embraced The Handmaid’s Tale. They are more dangerous than ever, and are one election away from achieving their goals, against the will of the majority of the country. It will be devastating.

You don’t deserve the upvotes you’ve got. There is no position that allows freedom from that side. There is no excuse for siding with the domestic terrorist. None. There’s respect for siding with Republicans stepping down to avoid his bullshit, but there should be no sympathy for people who vote for trump or his supporters in any way.

A Republican mayor is different category somehow, at least where I live we tend to alternate and unfailingly it goes like this:

Democratic mayor works on infrastructure, storm drains, water pipes, things you can’t see. Some social programs too, down payment assistance, e-bike vouchers, tree giveaways, funds for low income housing.

Republican mayor courts business, works on the superficial beautification of the city, showy things like stadiums, funnels tax money to companies more than to individuals. Tax breaks for hiring locals, rather than trying to push the money straight back to us.

I kind of think we need a little of that, but not sure why it gets labeled fiscally conservative.

Your conservative neighbors, coworkers and family may offer you smiles and politeness, but they will absolutely not mourn your loss if you or your family are killed by other conservatives. Empathy is simply not a conservative trait. This is team sports to them and you are not on their team.

Conservatives might not all be training or planning to attack the normal people, but many of them are. Many of them may be people you know. Be ready.

      “Burn_The_Right”

Rabid partisan politics can affect anyone to the point of advocating violence, as it obviously has done to you. You are acting as a provocateur, trying to reinforce an expectation of violence.

You say empathy is not a conservative trait, then demonstrate your own lack of empathy.

You say they see this as a team sports delusion, then treat it like one yourself. Every perosn has individual thoughts and decision matrixes, even the dipshit MAGAs. If you engaged with empathy rather than fear and arrogance, you’d be able to articulate a warning without that all or nothing doomer rhetoric.

You’ve becone the same monster you are scared of.

        hey, just because one side

        • keeps threatening with violence,
        • keeps brandishing weapons as a threat of violence,
        • actually commits violence,
        • fantasizes and talks about secession,
        • is proud of previous attempts of secession and the civil war they lost,
        • actually tried to violently overthrow the government and hang the vice president,
        • supports and celebrates state violence,
        • advocates for more state violence against minorities,

… doesn’t mean that all of a sudden you can say they want to commit violence, you monster!

That’s obviously not what I was saying and not how I was saying it, and you know it.

Perhaps if you weren’t so locked and loaded to attack anything not tightly fit into your bubble you’d react with reasonable questions and discussion as a response instead of trying to play gotcha nonsense.

When their entire account persona I was replying to is based around countering MAGA violence with more implied violence while not providing alternative solutions or even ideas, they’re just acting as another side of the same coin of the asshole MAGAs that we rail against.

Remain calm, the MAGA gravy seals are not as worthy of the panic inducing threat category you fear they are in.
