From the Owl Research Institute
Happy International Owl Awareness Day!
The Owl Research Institute is dedicated to conservation through our long-term research projects. We study the owl species themselves but also their prey species and their relationship to the habitats where they live. Over 30 years of boots on the ground research and we are still grateful for the opportunity to study these owls in their natural environments, and we continue to learn new things every day!
It took a few days to get those last 4 subs, but we’ve hit 3000!
We’ve grown so much this last year! I’m still having a lot of fun sharing all these great animals with you all.
Congrats!
Thank you! We couldn’t have done it without 2999 of you!
Thanks to this muni and anon6789, I am very aware of owls
I’m glad to help the owl voices be heard!
They wanted me to share that if you really love owls, you will spread the word to ban rodent poison. It has lead to an untimely end to NYC’s Flaco, the RaptorCAM baby, and countless other birds of prey, carnivores, and their families as they share food with one another. Other than cars and environmental damage, it is one of the top ways we hurt animals we claim to care for. There are many alternate ways to deal with rodents, indiscriminately poisoning the food chain is not what we should be doing.
Oh I’m right there with you. I once had my dog almost die from eating poison someone had left out to deal with mice
Oh no! 😨
I’m glad you were able to get it help. I’ve seen the poisoned birds and it looks to be a very miserable way to go, and to hear the stories of the birds bringing food back to the nest only for them to all die one after the other gets me every time. The mice and other squeaky little critters deserve better too. They have a tough life as it is, they should at least be dealt with humanely if people feel the need to kill them.
Hoot hoot hoot!
