Many anticommunists are undoubtedly going to suspend their horseshoe theorism to defend celebrations like this one by insisting that the Soviet Union was worse than the Axis, and that many Eurasians had ‘no choice’ but to collaborate with the latter, so it’s O.K. for these Europeans to honour Axis collaborators while destroying Soviet monuments.

It is a helpful reminder that my work is necessary. Many otherwise educated adults believe that they understand Fascism and can explain why it was wrong, but it quickly becomes apparent hearing them speak or seeing them write that their understanding is really quite shallow.

A couple of years ago I saw an anticommunist on X (formerly known as Twitter) comment ‘duh!’ with regards to antifascism, but she seriously classified the BRV as both communist and fascist simultaneously, with the justification being that she lives there and therefore her opinion is an objective fact.

I get a distinct impression that a lot of people in the west are quite comfortable with fascism. Meanwhile, many more are willing to look the other way as long as their personal comfort is not infringed.
