Talksport have a new Arsenal YT show that isn’t 100% hot takes by Simon what’s his face or Jamie thingy!
Arsenal fans, Darren Bent, Clive Palmer and Julien Laurens, hosted by Talia Lazarus.
Not a bad watch. Something I was pondering whilst watching the video, the panel kind of agreed that we’re on a different level to other teams in the league. We’ve gone toe-to-toe with Man City for 2 years running and only narrowly missed out only a few months ago. The fans they also spoke to said that everybody is scared of our success and I started to wonder if there is some underlying malice going on in the media.
What if the powers at be, behind some of the most wealthy football clubs, are spinning these narratives because they do feel threatened. It’s their way of fighting back to undermine Arsenal since they are unable to beat us on the pitch. Especially in the case of Man City where we could usurp their dominance.
I’m not one for conspiracy theories, I feel a lot of them are due to people being stuck in echoe chambers, so I’ll take off my tinfoil hat now, but I feel I resonated with Clive. I don’t understand what’s going on with these narratives that are being spun. I know what the intention is, but I don’t understand why. Why are people so happy for Arsenal to lose just so Man City can win again?
I was speaking to a mate of mine recently and he’s so disillusioned with football, he’s given up watching it. He is a Chelsea supporter, so I guess that says a lot for his lack of interest, but even before then, his response for the past few years has been, “What’s the point, Man City are just going to win again anyway”. I think that says a lot about how fans who follow the premier league feel, besides Man City supporters.
If City win the league, everyone just says, “well, what are you going to do”. If Arsenal win the league, that makes people sit up and pay attention. It’s a legitimate win. No one will question whether we’ve engaged in dodgy financial manueuvers or whether a nation-state paid Havertz’s dad 200k a week. They feel threatened because it’ll be the first legitimate champion in years besides Liverpool.
That raises an interesting question though, why did Liverpool not receive that kind of treatment during the years they were going toe-to-toe with City?
I love Julien, he’s always defended the team on ESPN FC
