Need to make a primal scream without gathering footnotes first? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid!
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cutānāpaste it into its own post ā thereās no quota for posting and the bar really isnāt that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned soo many āesotericā right wing freaks, but thereās no appropriate sneer-space for them. Iām talking redscare-ish, reality challenged āculture criticsā who write about everything but understand nothing. Iām talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. Theyāre inescapable at this point, yet I donāt see them mocked (as much as they should be)
Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldnāt be surgeons because they didnāt believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I canāt escape them, I would love to sneer at them.
@mii @blakestacey I cannot and will not argue about your points, theyāre absolutely valid. The words youāre using however are not correct. Nazis are fascists, as are these right wing monsters. They are antisocialist, not socialists. They are against socialism and against democracy and only for their own brand of autocracy.
āNational socialismā is the term the Nazis invented to describe themselves. āNaziā is the abbreviation of the term ānational socialismā. Could be good to know.
also good to point out for someone just finding out about this:
(1) The name is a lie in the same way āthe democratic peopleās republic of north koreaā is. So Peckham is absolutely correct that the Nazis hated socialists and were not socialists, as evidenced by the fact that they tried to kill all of them.
(2) The modern version of this lie is pretending the Nazis were socialists, and itās a very common tactic in the far right. So Peckham is correct that we should not call them socialists, itās just that using the term ānational socialistā doesnāt actually imply you think they are socialists.
(3) They did spring originally from the fusing of former socialist idealogues with the far right. So as with many massively successful lies there is a distant evolutionary relationship to something true.
@mountainriver Are you really shocked that the name is a lie?
donāt be the annoying pedant; weāre fully capable of understanding that the ānational socialist german workersā partyā was not a socialist party (and that a ānaziā is a pejorative and was from the start), that the phrase āmarxist-leninistā is generally used to mean āleft-authoritarian but want to pretend it isnātā, that the ācommunist party of the soviet unionā was actually presiding over a project of building an authoritarian state capitalism, and that the ārepublicanā party in the united states is trying to make the united states a theocratic dictatorship.
