Lately, we’ve cancelled most of our streaming services, and will just pick up the occasional Blu-Ray or CD that we actually WANT to watch/listen to. Also, our small town public library has a decent selection of said media to check out FOR DAMN FREE.

There is something to be said for deliberately choosing a movie or show to watch ahead of time, and then following through on that choice. It just feels more satisfying than scrolling through an endless* list of whatever Netflix feels like shoveling out in front of you when you plop on the couch to veg.

*Actually, in the last several years, you can’t even do that. Your feed is just the same 20-30 titles sorted in different pretend categories, while 99% of the catalog is buried back behind a search so that you can barely even stumble across things you may have wanted to watch anymore.

    /old man rant over

This is why it’s great to hear about a cool movie, start it torrenting, and in a few hours or tomorrow it’s ready to watch. “Hey guys, I heard about this movie where a black telemarketer pretends to be white on the phone.” “Cool, let’s watch it tomorrow night.”

      The future is female ejaculation.

I totally understand. I miss when watching a movie at home felt like more of an event.

I can’t argue with the convenience, but scrolling through a streaming platform feels similar in my mind to clicking on a 2-3 hour youtube video. Ironically, this makes me less inclined to commit to actually WATCHING something.

I get what you’re saying. When I was a kid my dad used to take me and my brother to each rent a game and a movie every weekend then pick up some fast food on the way home every week. I looked forward to that so much. Now I have whatever media I want at my fingertips but it’s just not the same.

I’ve started planning ahead what I’m going to watch/play and that’s brought some of the magic back but it’s not near what I had as a kid. I wasn’t nearly as burned out as I am now either though.

Man… I knew it was obvious sarcasm but I still instinctively grimaced at the first part

I was hoping someone would get a kick out of it, but it’s sad that my mind even went there when reading the initial comment.
