    This caused a sudden flood of elementary school memories from the 1990s. I swear my teachers talked about how some countries used nails as currency. Is this what they were talking about?

      Not quite, probably. Nails were used as currency mostly in the colonial Americas, I think, because smiths and iron were in short supply, and mostly imported from Europe - hence taking on a much greater value. Don’t quote me on that though.
